An Urbantastic Update

From time to time I thought you might enjoy hearing about what we’ve been up to over the last while. Today is day 48 of the newly launched site and it’s been nearly six whole months since Heath and I began this journey. Since, a lot has happened.

Quickly catching up…

We’ve met with:

  • Maria at Volunteer Vancouver
  • Phil at RRU
  • Steve at Business Objects
  • Trina at SFU
  • Paul at Sunset Community Centre
  • Kevan at Union Gospel Mission

And the list goes on…

As well, Heath has been programming away madly. After launching the site, profiles of both People and Orgs doing good have been activated. Great profiles like that of Mike Rowlands have since populated the site (Thanks Mike!). Though there isn’t much to do yet, the best thing you can do right now is join Posses and show your support. People have been doing just that. So far Take a Hike and Urbantastic have the largest posses.

Yesterday, we had over 6,000 unique visitors to the site thanks to Heath’s Tech Tuesday blog post. It was featured on Reddit and YCombinator news. Needless to say the 9000% increase in visitors was a shocker. However exciting this is, we are still focusing on building our hyper-local audience.

Our goal over the next 60 days is to keep promoting micro-volunteering to the Metro Vancouver community through social media like twitter, and postering local campuses. We’re looking to be featured by bloggers and even…traditional media (fingers crossed). Most importantly we’ll be enabling People and Orgs to interact through comments, questions/polls and of course, tasks. Because that’s exactly what we’re here to do.

Until the next update, I’ll leave you with this quote:

Belief. Belonging. Mattering. Making a difference. Tribes. We have an unlimited need for this.
-Seth Godin, author, “Tribes”
