Micro-volunteering Ideas
I’ll be updating the blog roll on occasion with some ideas for micro-volunteering that I’ve gathered and witnessed. Remember, we define micro-volunteering as small, quick, low-commitment ways to help out a cause. I view it as an employee vs. contractor difference for the volunteer world.
Here is a brief list:
Proof reading: Making sure that all documents, content, publicity and newsletters are written in the correct format and use the correct grammar.
Questions and information*: Providing information and answers for organizations wanting more information about a project, program or topic.
*See Heath’s Tech Tuesday update regarding crowdsourcing.
Designing and branding: Helping a newly-formed organization or charity create a brand and a logo that will get noticed.
Taking photos: Providing relevant photos that can be stored in the organization’s Flickr account for publicity use. Heck, even introducing them to Flickr is micro-volunteering!
Translation: Translating letters and documents into other languages.
My favourite of the bunch is taking photos. The possibilities are endless and rarely does an organization have an excess of quality stock photos. For more info on using photos/flickr for good I suggest you check out writer & social media evangelist Monica Hamburg’s presentation.
