Micro-volunteering in Vancouver
Just this week, we presented in front of an audience of around sixty people at Vancouver Net Tuesday. It was a great experience sharing our vision of how non-profits can transform themselves through social media and its ability to engage supporters at a deeper level. We of course focused our message on micro-volunteering. As stated in our About Us page, our goal is to promote organizations that embrace social media, and extend that trend to include micro-volunteering. The idea, it seemed, was a hit with the audience and many great questions were asked.
Micro-volunteering, though a pretty straightforward term, is still new. There isn’t even a Wikipedia article to cite a definition. We define micro-volunteering as thus:
Creating and editing a Wikipedia article is a great example of micro-volunteering… Anyway, as I said in my presentation, the best part for me is that commitment isn’t required, but creativity is. Heath and I will continue to champion the message of micro-volunteering in Vancouver (and beyond) but if this idea is to become a reality, it needs a whole community of supporters.
If your interested in Urbantastic or micro-volunteering, drop a line and let us know.
