Spreading the word
After several months of spotty blogging, Heath and I have committed ourselves to stepping up our repertoire of communication here on our blog, as well as through our twitter feed [link]. This relates with our new message to the organizations that we wish everyone to engage with: communicate more! As such, we ought to be leading by example. As a board member for a small charity, and an active supporter of other non-profits, I realize the difficulties that an organization faces, but that does not let organizations off the hook. Open communication of operations (and finances…) by orgs is critical both from the perspective of the org as well as ‘the people’. It ought to be done as openly as technology allows. Blog readers know exactly how far technology will allow an organization to communicate its activities these days. However, a cursory glimpse at local non-profits might lead one to belief that the Internet was still a new fad.
Anyway, you’re going to see a lot more blogging and ‘tweeting’ from us from now on. Its focus will be surrounding the changes we’re making with our site (something big coming very soon), and our thoughts on social media for civil society. I hope, if this is something you have a degree of passion for, that you will engage in the conversation. And for those organizations out there, remember that you must inform and involve before we (the people) donate.
